Whole-Life Discipleship

Cambridge House’s Fellows Program offers undergraduate and graduate students a year-long experience of whole-life discipleship. Rooted in the belief that human life is meant to be conformed to the image of Christ, the program emphasizes formation of heart and character through the contemplation of truth and the practice of virtue. Fellows meet weekly for shared meals, guided reading and discussion, prayer and worship, and thoughtful engagement with the relationship between faith and academic life.

Cultivating Wisdom

The Fellows Program meets weekly during the fall and spring semesters. Fellows cultivate wisdom through thoughtful discussion of great works of literature, engaging the writings of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien and, through them, encountering older voices from the historic Christian tradition. These include authors such as Augustine, Boethius, Dante, Thomas Aquinas, and John Milton. Through Cambridge House’s programming, Fellows also participate in conversations with Christian leaders and scholars from a variety of disciplines, reflecting on contemporary issues such as sexual ethics and biblical anthropology, wealth and vocation, environmental stewardship, racism, and technology.

Practicing Virtue

Fellows Commit to:
Community:
Fellows will meet weekly over dinner or dessert to discuss readings, pray and worship together, and explore the integration of faith and academic life.

Spiritual Disciplines: Because practices like prayer, Bible study, fasting, and silence are essential to spiritual growth, Fellows will practice these disciplines and meet monthly with a spiritual mentor of their choice.

Service: Following the One who came “to serve, not be served,” Fellows will grow in Christ-likeness by helping prepare and clean up meals for some Fellow’s meetings and by serving at one Cambridge House event during the year.

Hospitality: Fellows will help cultivate an intentional Christian community marked by love and hospitality by treating Cambridge House as their own, inviting students to events, and participating in Cambridge House activities.

Sexual Purity and Sobriety: In response to Jesus’ call to be “salt and light”, Fellows commit to living lives of sexual purity and sobriety, understood as self-control and the responsible use of alcohol.

“I believe that no education is complete without due consideration of God and all his works, studied through theology and philosophy. The fellows have helped me glean much more from the texts than I would have taken away reading on my own. During a discussion, I have more than once found myself smiling uncontrollably, because I understood some new attribute of God. This program has helped me to pursue knowledge of God not as an academic exercise, but as worship.” — Katie C. (2023-2024 Fellow)

“A hidden gem of intellectual life on the William & Mary campus.” — Terence F. (2023-2024 Fellow)

“The Fellows Program has been a blessing, providing opportunities for fellowship with a close-knit group who challenge me to think in new ways about topics of faith, philosophy, and theology. Reading many impactful authors has helped to inform and solidify my own ideas of what it means to be a Christian and encouraged me to dive intellectually into my faith.” — Janey H. (2023-2024 Fellow)
